b'DAYTODAYTHE FOUR ELEMENTS OF EFFECTIVE PRESENTATIONS In the SmartBrief on Leadership video series, keynote speaker Denise Lee Yohn offers the four Ps of a powerful presentation: 1. Persuasion. Its not enough to simply state your points; you must convince people to accept them. Understand your audience and determine what you want them to think/feel/know after youre done so that you can address any potential objections. 2. Pictures. Use stories and other sensory language to ignite peoples imaginations and appeal to their emotions. Use analogies and illustrations, give examples, and share anecdotes. 3. Pathway. Build your case in a logical, easytofollow manner. This is particularly important in virtual presentations where its easy for your audience to get distracted or tune out. 4. Practical application. Be clear about what changes or actions you want your audience to take. You dont want them to simply think or know something, so dont just tell them the what. Since you want to affect how they live, you have to tell them the so what. SUPPORTING BURNEDOUT FEMALE WORKERSBeth Castle, the managing editor at InHerSight, believes that the key to retaining women through these challenging times comes down to offering worklife integration. The number of women experiencing burnout has risen 10 percent since last year, coming in at a whopping 42 percent. Defined as feeling sad, irritable, and unmotivated, burnout is a hopeless reality for almost half of all women in North America. McKinsey & Companys annual Women in the Workplace report says 1 in 3 women are considering changing or leaving their jobs.Employers can make a difference to this state of mental, physical, and emotional exhaustion that results from prolonged stress in several ways. Flexibility is the number one thing women say they want from their employers: flexible work hours, a focus on deliverables rather than hours clocked in, and encouragement to use time off. Active, openminded, and actionable listening also motivates, builds relationship and trust, and offers release. When this simple skill isnt prioritized or is done superficially, it speaks volumes of an organizations culture and caring concern for their employees.Source: Fast Company50 WWW.CITYGATENETWORK.ORG JANUARY/FEBRUARY 2022'
