b'DifferentYet the SameChanging lives across decades by Eric BurgerShelterKCWhen we held our 75th anniversary celebration, we shared many pictures of the old rescue mission and its humble beginnings. The building was only 18 feet wide; the only space for the dorm, a dark and damp basement. But there was a picture of our founder, preaching in suit and tie in a crowded chapel under a sign that said, How long since you wrote to Mother? As I looked at that picture and the other historical photos, I wondered what mission founders would think of our mission and other ministries in 2026. I believe Dr. Aycock would be amazed at how mission work has grown and changed. He could walk by a mission chapel and still see the gospel message being proclaimed. But in addition to former guests sharing their stories, he might see formally trained staff members sharing clinical-level instruction. In addition to a sign on the wall, he might see a video projector with sermon notes or worship song lyrics. In addition to a physical copy of Gods Word, he might see a Bible app being used on a smartphone. Different, yet the same.15 INSTIGATE|January/February|2026'
